After 11 seasons as a receiver with the Packers, Max McGee moved into the broadcasting booth at Lambeau Field. In Super Bowl I, after catching only four passes all season, Max caught two touchdown passes in Green Bay's 35-10 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. "I knew I wouldn't play unless (Boyd) Dowler got hurt," he says. So McGee had himself a good time in the days (and nights) prior to the game, regularly breaking curfew. He stayed out until 7:30 a.m. on the day of the game. Then the unthinkable happened: Dowler suffered a separated shoulder while throwing a block on the opening series. In 1999, after 20 years of broadcasting Packer games, he retired from broadcasting.
